| | August 09, 2006 Exploration Program on Wasi Wasi Creek Project (Zinc, Lead, Silver)
Bard Ventures Ltd. ("Bard" or the "Company") and its joint venture partner Selkirk Metals Corp. ("Selkirk", SLK:TSX Venture) is pleased to announce that the exploration program on the Wasi Creek Project has commenced.
The initial phase of the program consists of excavator trenching of the Carrie zinc-lead-silver showing. This showing was discovered and hand trenched in 2002 returning assays of 5.10% zinc, 2.89% lead, and 18.0 grams per tonne ("gpt") silver across a sample width of 10 metres. This will be followed by a diamond drilling program if warranted.
Mineralization on the Wasi Creek Property was discovered and evaluated by Cominco Ltd. ("Cominco") in the early 1990's. Cominco identified zinc-lead-silver mineralization along a 2 kilometer carbonate horizon (the Par Horizon) which remains open along strike and down dip. The 2005 drilling by the Company was successful in intersecting a new horizon sub-parallel to the Par Horizon as a result of an airborne magnetic and EM survey. The survey results have identified several high priority targets that require ground examination and follow-up exploration including mapping, prospecting, rock and soil sampling, trenching and dependant upon results diamond drilling. One high priority area is the southern extension of the Par Horizon that has several EM targets. In 1992 Cominco intersected 6.35% zinc, 1.07% lead and 16.5gpt silver over 4.8m and 4.98% zinc, 0.68% lead and 18.0gpt silver over 5.0 metres in hole 92-16 located north of the high priority area.
In addition to the Carrie showing and the Par horizon, which was explored primarily by Cominco, the Company is following up on the discovery of numerous large angular higher grade massive sulphide boulders. These boulders appear to be related to a source separate from both the Par and Carrie Horizons. Two of these boulders sampled by Selkirk returned assays of 26.30% zinc, 25.98% lead, and 96.3 gpt silver, and 8.46% zinc, 42.43% lead and 384.8 gpt silver.
The Company is funding exploration on the Property under the terms of an option agreement to earn a 50% interest in the Property with Selkirk being the Operator of the program. Aeroquest Limited, of Milton Ontario, conducted the airborne geophysical survey, ACME Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver analyzed the drill core and F. Boisvenue Drilling was contracted to perform the diamond drilling. Exploration work on the Property is being conducted under the supervision of Qualified Person Jim Miller-Tait, P. Geo, Vice President of Exploration, Selkirk Metals Corp.
